  1. Star rating

Although this shouldn’t be the deciding factor, the star rating of a hotel should be something that you consider. This is because when you are choosing a hotel it is a good idea to choose a hotel that suits the purpose of your trip.

For example, if you are going on a short business trip, a budget hotel might be perfectly suitable, as you may not want to spend too much. But, for a two-week vacation, you may want access to the quality amenities that come with a high-class hotel.

  1. Parking

If you are planning on travelling by car or hiring a car once you arrive, it is important to check that your hotel has ample guest parking.

If your hotel has no space to park, this may make things a little tricky. However, you could always look into the local transport options, instead of travelling by car. Or, pick a different hotel that has parking.

  1. Location

The location of a hotel is one of the most important factors to consider. Before booking your hotel, make sure that it is your desired location.

For instance, if you are planning a city break, then an inner city hotel would be ideal. But, if you are planning a relaxing getaway, then you would probably be more comfortable in a more rural location, as hotels in cities tend to be busy and somewhat noisy.

  1. Reviews

Before booking a hotel, make sure to go online and read some reviews on it, sites like TripAdvisor are excellent for this. Avoid reading reviews on the hotel’s website, as these will only include positive things.

When reading reviews, look for things like how clean the rooms are, the level of customer service provided and the comfort level of the beds and bedrooms. For example, look for reviews that talk about the mattress and the hotel linens and how comfortable they are. Remember, the main thing to consider when booking a hotel is comfort.

  1. Services

A key thing to consider when picking a hotel is the services that it provides for guests. Do you need access to a washing machine? Is room service available? Does the hotel have an on-site creche, gym and swimming pool? Is free wi-fi provided?

These are all important things to take into consideration when booking a hotel.
