Nobody likes standing in line at the consulate in order to get a visa. There is a lot of time involved. But what if I told you there is an easier and faster way? There are a few countries that can offer that service online. India is one one the countries that release an e-visa. That means the entire process is done online, with little effort on your part.
What you need to do
First of all, you need to get on the website and read all about it. The process is quite straightforward, and you can get your visa in as little as 18 hours. However, keep in mind that an e-visa can be released only to people who travel by plane and land on one of the 16 listed airports in India. If you go by cruise ship, you will need to go to the Indian consulate after all.
The papers you need are as follows:
- A valid passport (if you don’t have one, you need to get it done. You can get passport photos online if you like)
- A recent digital photo of yourself
- A passport scan of the information page
- A credit/debit card or a Paypal account.
The application is a two-step form. The first one should only take about 5 minutes. It includes your basic information. The second step requires you to upload the documents I mentioned above. Also, you will need to complete a personal questionnaire. Nothing out of the ordinary, just simple information that the embassy needs to know. Click submit, and that is pretty much it. If you need help any step of the way, there is 24/7 assistance available.
How much does it cost?
The price is not the same for everyone. It depends on the nationality of the applicant. But just to paint a clear picture, the price varies somewhere between 0$ and 97$. It’s entirely affordable, and it beats losing all that time at the consulate.
Another variable regarding the cost is the type of processing you choose. If you want the standard processing, the service fee is 35$. You will receive your visa via e-mail in 3 business days. The Rush Processing will add 30$ to your bill, but you will receive the visa within one business day. If you are really in a hurry, you can choose the Super Rush Processing that only takes 18 hours. That will add another 65$ to your bill.
Unless you have an emergency, I don’t really see the point in paying all that money. Three business days is not that long, and you can apply 33 days before the date of arrival. Also, the visa is valid for 30 days upon arrival in India.
Is the cost refundable?
Yes, but only to a certain extent. As long as the service has not taken your application to the Indian embassy for approval, you can get a full refund on what you paid. However, if your application has reached the embassy, you can no longer enjoy a refund.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated about what I have just described. The process is simple, it requires little effort, and you get the e-visa in the shortest amount of time possible. It will take longer for you to do the packing than applying for an Indian visa.
